Hey Linkshell (and Visitors)!
Well the guide started out small but became a monster! Currently un-organized, though once I am temporarily statisfied with the information, I will organize.
Note: Following the following plan will only increase you chances of receiving the desired breed/color.
Jennet (Green)
Relatively short chocobos called Jennet, to achieve parents have to have Endurance. A minor boost to Endurance is Basic Care, Talking a walk, Exercising in a group, a moderate increase in endurance is carrying packs, there is no major boost for endurance.
Rounsey (Yellow)
Rounseys are the average chocobo that you rent. Rounseys are likely what you'll have when you get your first chocobo. You can mate them to get the other species (different stats give different species of chocobos) there is no special way to get a Rounsey.
Palfrey (Blue)
To achieve a Palfrey the parents need to have high Discernment, a minor boost to discernment is Basic Care, Listening to Music, Playing with children, a moderate boost is Exhibiting to the public and a major boost to Discernment is Digging for Treasure.
Courser (Red or Yellow)
These rare and relatively tall chocobos are rarely seen and even more rarely seen red, they are no longer purebred but occasionally have red from previous generations come out in their feathers. To achieve a Courser the parents both need to have high physical stats, Endurance and Strength, a minor boost to both is Basic care, taking a walk, exercising alone is a minor boost to just Strength, Exercising in a group is a minor boost to endurance, a moderate boost to both is carrying packages, a major boost to strength is Delivering Messages, there is no major boost for Endurance. Coursers are clearly the most difficult breed to achieve.
Destrier (Black or Yellow)
Destriers are no longer pure bread and occasionally have their black feathers show, much like red Coursers. To Achieve a Destrier you need the parents to have high strength. A minor boost to strength is Basic care, taking a walk, exercising alone, a moderate boost to it's strength is carrying packages and a major boost is Delivering messages.
NOTE: Some of the Care procedures I have given you decrease other stats please be aware of that! Make sure your affection with the chocobo is always kept high, if you do not thee procedures will have no effect.
NOTE: As for Diet experiment, chocobos are different on what breed likes what.[/color]

Furthermore I thought another useful resource for the guide would be Scenarios! I.e.: Chocobo Has a stomach ache, what do I do?
~Q&A~
Q: I Recently checked on my Chocobo and one of the VCS members said that my Chocobo looked Ill! Is there anything I can do?
A: Yes, To rejuvenate you chocobo to full health Garden or Buy Some Tokopekko Wildgrass, then have your chocobo rest for a day or so, he or she should be healthy in no time!
Q: My Chocobo doesn't seem to like me very much. a VCS member said that maybe he doesn't have much affection for me! What should I do to restore our bond?
A: There are a few things you can do to raise your chocobo's affection for you. One is watch over it, multiple times, it will be glad to see you and enjoy your company, you can also feed him, they enjoy carrots quite a bit. There is one more drastic measure you can take if so needed, you can feed it a Cupid worm or Gregarious Worm, but be warned that any worm can have side effects on your chocobo.
Q: My Chocobo does not look very happy lately, a VCS member suggested that maybe it was a stomache ache. What can I do to help?
A: Yes, to heal your Chocobo's stomache ache you should give your chocobo a clump of Gardiav Wildgrass, it doesn't taste very good but it will heal the chocobo to full health.
Q: While my chocobo and I were walking in the woods the other day, tripped over a log and scraped his leg very badly! What can heal it so my chocobo and I can get out and exercise?
A: You can Significantly decrease the healing time is by feeding your chocobo Gausebit Grass. So you and your chocobo can be back to your regular activities sooner then without
Q: Earlier today I checked up on my Chocobo, a VCS member told me that my Chick has been waking up in the night and crying. What should I do?
A: This is common with young chicks for them to miss their “parent” and become depressed, just ask the VCS member for a handkerchief, hold on to that for a day or so and then give it to the VCS member so they can comfort your Chick with your scent. Your Chocobo should be sleeping soundly in no time!
Chocobo Status
Your chocobo can recieve many different status effects. These will speed, slow or interrupt your chocobo's training, depending on the ailment. Also note that some of these are repeats of what i've posted earlier, just want all of the ailments and status' to be in one place.
Crying at night
Your chocobo can miss you at night as an infant. Your trainer will give you a white hankerchief and tell you to carry it around for a while. It doesn't take very long for the chocobo trainer to take back the cloth, wait a game day, also make sure you have zoned or logged in between or it wont work.
Ill
Your chocobo can become sick for many reasons, personaly I give my chicks 1 paste every 2 days (doesn't matter which kind) and they never get sick, I mean NEVER. Currently the best way to heal this ailment is feeding your chocobo a Tokopekko Wildgrass. Wait until the next training day and your chocobo should be in tip-top condition.
Very Ill
Your chocobo is getting more sick. Tokopekko Wildgrass still seems the best treatment posibly also switch its next plan to rest for 1 day. Wait until the next training day to see if it's condition improves.
Stomachache
Your chocobo will get a stomachache occasionally. Currently the only known methods of doing so is by overfeeding your chocobo or feeding special foods such as celerity salad (+1) or Choco-lixers (+1) while it is sick or completely full.. Garidav Wildgrass is will help it feel better.
Injured
Your chocobo is injured. Gausebit Grass is the best treatment. Don't try to exercise it during this time, just read to it and watch over it.
Depressed
Your chocobo has not been recieving very much affection, and has become depressed. Taking long walks is the best method of curing this ailment.
Happy
Your chocobo has been recieving plenty of affection, and is very happy! As long as you take plenty of walks and continue to feed your chocobo well, this condition will pop up lots. It can last anywhere from 1 day to about 4. Your chocobo receives stat and affection bonuses while it is happy.
Sleeping
Contrary to popular belief, this is not a glitch or even a bug. Its an issue of you chocobo eighther being a little bit spoiled, or its overall stamina has been drained, best fix for this is to put it on about 2 days of rest but if you really need to do something with it, you can trade the VCS member a Chocotonic, or scold it, I sudgest Chocotonics, although they cost money, they don't lower affection as much as scolding.
Bored
Your chocobo is bored, it wants to race! You can fix this by having your chocobo compete against others, its an option once teen. Do two races a day until it goes away.
Spoiled
Your chocobo has been pampered and well... spoiled too much and needs disicipline. You can fix this by scolding your chocobo, please note it will lower affection.
Ran away
Your chocobo has run away from the stables. You will not be able to care for your Chocobo. When this happens, pat yourself on the back, cause to be honest you need to be beating your choco like 4 times a day, and not feeding it for nearly a week. But fear not, keep checking the stables everyday, it'll come back soon. Please try to be more careful from that point on.
In love
Your chocobo has had it's head in the clouds lately, it must be in love. Too be honest, I don't know how to get rid of it. If you have some idea please let me know!
Chocobo Personality
Chocobos differ in temperament, which, i'm sorry to tell you, had nothing to do with its adulthood color. The reason of Personality is to show what stat emphisis it has. You should receive a personality after about 8-9 days if your doing everything right (not that theres a wrong way to raise a chocobo, but there is a right way to raise it's stats.
None
"Your chocobo does not seem to have much of a personality, making it easy to care for" -- this is the intitial message you'll get with your chocobo until it has a personality.
Ill-Tempered
"Your chocobo is Ill-tempered, making it ideal for military use" -- emphisis on strength
Enigmatic
"Your chocobo is enigmatic, making it difficult to tell what it is thinking" -- emphisis on discernment
Patient
"It is a very patient chocobo, making it ideal for carrying goods" -- Emphisis on Endurance.
Sensitive
Your chocobo has a sensitive personality, making it good dealing with people -- Emphisis on Receptivity.
This section is a post on what diferent aged chocobos can do with active care plans.
Infant Chocobo
These options become available with an infant chocobo.
Watch over your Chocobo
Watching over your chocobo provides benefits during raising. The primary benefit of watching your chocobo is an accumulation of Affection, though it appears to also give a more specific rundown of your chocobo's condition. As a chick this reduces Energy by 3~5%.
Go on a walk (Short)
You may go on a walk with your chocobo. In game sources relate that your chocobo can acquire an affinity for certain types of weather depending on where you walk them, for instance if during training your chocobo encounters wind weather a lot on La Thine Plateau, you may find any or all of: Digging results, racing speed improvement, riding time increase or perhaps even improved training results, if you encounter wind weather. You will be able to engage in mini-quests using this option, some of which reward Chocobo Stories.
As a chick, this reduces energy ~25%. As an older chocobo, this option expands to Regular and Long lengths. The Energy reduction does not change for the full-length walk, however the older options decrease in Energy value as your chocobo gets older.
Adolencent Chocobos
As your chocobo becomes older, these options are available.
Tell a Story
This increases your chocobo's Affection and Discernment. Your chocobo will be able to gain two out of five potential abilities while reading them a story, though the specifics of these abilities and the particular stories is discussed later. You do not have to know a story for this option to open, though your chocobo won't learn an ability from it. This option does not become open until the Young Chocobo stage, apparently, it doesn't matter if you have a story or not. You must meet with your chocobo trainer a total of three times to get the Story key item from them.
Story of a Youthful Chocobo is granted by meeting with Pulonono (Windurst) 3 times during walks. (Short for Windy, Regular for Bastok, Long for Sandy).
Story of a Curious Chocobo is granted by meeting with Brutus 3 times (long walk for all cities).
Story of a Happy Chocobo is granted by Bashraf for winning 3 Races (Compete again others).
Story of an Impatient Chocobo is granted by meeting Hantileon (San d'oria) 3 times during walks (Short for Sandy, Regular for Windy, and long for Bastok).
Story of a Worrysome Chocobo is granted by meeting Zopago (Bastok) 3 times during walks (Short for Bastok, Regular for Sandy, Long for Windy.
Scold the Chocobo
You may scold your chocobo. Doing this decreases your chocobo's Affection, but Disciplines the chocobo. This implies that your chocobo might be disobedient at times, and a hidden "Loyalty" stat may be kept track of that improves the chances that your chocobo will cooperate during chocobo racing.
Compete Against Others
Your chocobo (upon meeting certain requirements) will be able to compete against other chocobos. This entertains a bored chocobo, and increases Affection. Competing also depletes Energy. This option will become available when your chocobo meets others on Take a walk (Regular) during the Adolescent stage. Winning 3 Chocobo challenges will grant you Ket Item: Story of a Happy Chocobo
Take a walk (Regular)
Upon choosing to take your chocobo on a walk [regular] you and your chocobo will walk to La thiene. As I stated earlier here you meet the people you comete against and also if you were to take alot of walks in La Thiene while wind weather was up, it would favor wind.
Chocobo Statistics
At this point, it will be good to know what stats do before we go on.
Stats, from best to worst, are ranked as follows:
First-Class -- Outstanding -- Impressive -- Better than average -- Average -- A bit deficient -- Substandard -- Poor
There are 7 Chocobo statistics, of Physical, Mental, and Raising types:
Physical Stats
Strength
This stat describes a chocobo's speed. This applys to both when it is racing, and normal use out in the field.
Endurance
This stat describes a chocobo's riding duration. Again, this will apply to both races and field use.
Mental Stats
Discernment:
Raising this stat will increase the number of items you can get from chocobo digging. (Example: with poor discernment, you may receive 1 of the best items and 100 of the lesser items. With First Class, you would receive 10 of the best, 50 of the moderate, and only 41 of the lesser items.)
Receptivity:
Raising this stat will increase its chance of learning abilities when you tell it certain storys (Example: with poor receptivity, it may take 50 times for it to learn the abilitie, with firstclass, it may take only 10-20).
Chocobo Care Statistics
These statistics seem only to be active during chocobo raising, though a modified form may take place during special events and quests. They are displayed differently to the player than permanent stats.
Energy
This statistic describes a chocobo's ability to work. It effects how well your chocobo performs on tasks, a chocobo's energy will be reduced for every day it is not resting during a care plan. Keeping your chocobo well fed will restore its energy much faster. Energy is greatly depleted during the implementation of care plans. It takes the place of your chocobo's HP bar during training.
Affection
This statistic describes a chocobo's relationship with its owner, and consequently effects how well it performs on tasks much more than a
chocobo's Energy. Affection is depleted during the implementation of Care Plans, and generally restored during active chocobo care.
Affection follows the following scale, best to worst:
Regards you as its parent -- Wants to be with you all the time -- Likes you a lot -- Likes you pretty well -- Likes being around you -- Enjoys your company -- Able to endure your company -- Doesn't care for you at all
Satisfaction (Hunger)
This stat describes a chocobo's hunger on a gauge, or satisfaction of hunger. This directly affects the Energy regeneration of your chocobo.
Ranked best to worst: Completely Full -- Quite Full -- Almost full -- Neither hungry nor full -- A Little Hungry -- Quite Hungry -- Starving
There is alot of name options and I didn't want put them on here so click this click to see them all: ruey.foopie.net/Chocobo%20Raising.txt
Rule 1 of naming your Chocobo! You can only use 2 of the given names.
Rule 2 of naming your Chocobo! The amount of charachters in both words must add up to 15 or lower.
Breeding!!!
Step 1: Obtain both a Male and a female chococards. Now You can obtain them from your friends, get them from someones bazaar, depends what works for you. But leme mention something here, I know its happend to me a few times. Say you're in san D'oria, and the friend your switching cards with is in Windurst, make sure you have TWO of your cards, the reason for this is when you trade each other your cards, if you hadn't brought two of your own cards, you would have their card, but not yours!
Step 2: Run to Upper jeuno and speak with the child the right (your right) of Brutus at the chocobo stables. He will Offer you 4 diferent honeymoon plans for your chocobos, they each cost 5k.
Gourmet: Increased Strength in chick, increased chance of male.
Sports: Increased Endurance in chick, increased chance of receiving sire's attributes (Color, abilities, stat emphisis) Now when I say abilities, I mean it will be easier for the chick to learn the abilities of the sire/dam whichever it mainly received it's atributes from.
Tour of Jeuno: Increased Discernment in chick, Increased chance of female.
forgot name: Increased Receptivity in chick, Increased chance of receiving dam's atributes.
Step 3: Once you have a honeymoon plan, one male Chococard and one female Chococard, trade all three to the child.
Step 4: Wait until Japanese midnight (8:00 AM PST) to pick up your egg.
Step 5: When your ready to start your new egg retire your current chocobo, and trade the VCS member your egg to start over with your new egg.
Note: When you retire you chocobo, you will NOT be able to un-retire you chocobo, so make sure your completly content with its stats, abilities, ect. When you retire you chocobo, you can still get chococards, and race (at Chocobo Circuit once its in-game). But one of the most important things to do before you retire your chocobo is make sure you have the chocobo whistle, otherwise you have to wait until your new chocobo is at day 29+ to get the whistle and register it to that chocobo.
